  1. Plone Wessex meetup

    24 February 2010

A fantastic turn out for the Plone Wessex meet up last night – despite a couple of absences due to sickness and late working, we still had the largest gathering I’ve been to so far.

The Plone conference 2010 was obviously one of the main topics of conversation. Thanks to the efforts of Matt Hamilton, the event is coming to Bristol this October. Open are very excited about getting involved.

Matt Hamilton has suggested we do a talk about our experience of Plone from a brand led agency perspective. It’s definitely been an amazing tool for us these past couple of years, ensuring comprehensive content management without compromise on visual appearance has been key. Some struggles along the way, but the recent addition of collective.xdv into our process has been amazing. I agree this would all make a good talk (and a good blog). We’ll keep you posted.

The ‘Suits’ element of the conference is very interesting for Open. Focussing on nontechnical, business aspects of Plone – especially marketing. This without doubt needs attention, a perfect area for Open to offer our expertise. We’re looking forward to it.

Other interesting discussions last night included the pros and cons of using Dexterity, Django versus Plone for web app development (a slightly controversial topic), and the perennial problem of the ever growing scope of project management systems. All good stuff. Another successful night for the growing Bristol Plone community.
